About the Classic Car Illustrations
Lino cut Illustrations
The images Steve produces are based on lino cut illustrations. They are first, hand drawn in pencil before being transferred on to linoleum. This is done buy burnishing on the back of the drawing, transferring the pencil marks on to the lino. Using gauges the image is then hand carved, in reverse, and hand printed.
Each colour, that makes up the final image, is printed in black. Each of the black prints is then scanned at a very high resolution. The scanned images are then brought into Indesign, graphic design layout software, where they are coloured and composed.
Printing the Illustrations
The final image can then be output in many different formats. They can be produced as super high resolution Giclée* fine art prints or as greetings cards, postcards etc. although there is no limit to how the images can reproduced or used.
The fine art Giclée prints are produced on a lightly textured, heavy weight paper. Giclée fine art prints represent the highest in quality and excellence. The prints are produced on super high quality papers from fine art experts Hahnemühle. The prints are signed by Steve Goodwin.
The Motoring Prints poster
Giclée is a form of very high quality printing used for fine art prints and photography. A similar process to inkjet printing, but using more colours, to a much higher standard and with greater longevity. The prints are produced on 320gsm Hahnemhle German Etching paper, a natural white uncoated paper with a light texture. It is acid-free, mould-made for fine art prints.
