This C-Type Jaguar illustration shows the car coming through the chicane at Goodwood, it was supplied to the greetings card producer Woodmansterne. It has previously been used on a blank greetings card and published under their Millbank range. They have decided to reproduce this illustration for use on a Fathers Day card next year. The greetings card companies work a long way in advance.
The illustration itself is of a Jaguar C-Type from 1955. I saw it competing at the 74th Goodwood Members Meeting in the Peter Collins Trophy race. This was a 20-minute race for drum-braked sports cars that raced between 1948 and 1955. The race paid homage to the cars that competed in the legendary nine-hour races held at Goodwood during the 1950s. The cars in the background include an Aston Martin DB3, another C-Type Jaguar and an Allard J2X.
It is a great thrill to see the illustrations reproduced on greetings cards and on the shelves in shops. I have literally hundreds of ideas for classic car and racing car illustrations that I want to produce. And the more racing events and car shows I go to the longer that list gets!
I also get interesting commissions for classic car portraits. These commissions are from owners of classic cars or racing cars and often as gifts for people who have a specific interest in a particular car. These are cars I may not necessarily have thought of to illustrate but they are always great images to produce.
